The internships are 10-15 weeks and are available in the Fall, Spring and Summer. Interns receive a stipend plus transportation costs. The program includes hands-on work experience plus work shops and field trips. Students may earn college credit as well. Each intern is supervised by a coach or mentor throughout the internship. Internship positions are located across the U.S.

The internships are sponsored by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), established by the U.S. Department of Commerce in 1958. Its purpose is to regulate aviation practices and procedures and ensure safety in air transportation.
